Remember What You Learn Legend Spell

You put in the hours. You read it, go over it and write it out, and then, at the test, the meeting or the new job, it slips away. The Remember What You Learn Legend Spell is a spell for holding on to what you learn. It works to:

• Help what you learn stay with you, so that the time you spend studying is not wasted.
• Bring it back when you need it, so that the answer is there when you are asked.
• Set your learning in order, so that one thing leads you to the next.

This spell goes back to one real root: a legend of the Greek poet Simonides, already old when the Roman statesman Cicero retold it more than two thousand years ago. The legend tells that Simonides stepped outside a banquet hall moments before its roof fell in, and that afterward he could name each guest who had died there, because he remembered where each one had reclined at the table. From that night, it says, came the art of memory. Legend Spells draw their magic from the wisdom of legends, and the lesson people kept from this one is simple: give each thing its place, and you will find it again. Your letter tells the story in full.

The spell calls on three parts of the legend. The Table, the places where the guests had reclined, which Simonides remembered, works to help what you learn stay with you. The Naming, the moment he named each guest for the families, works to bring it back when you need it. The Rooms, the art of memory that came from that night, with each thing set in its own room of a building held in the mind, work to set your learning in order.
