During the New Moon of March—the last New Moon before the spring equinox—when lunar light withdraws completely and stellar power reaches its peak, Alkaid blazes at the tip of the Big Dipper’s handle as it ascends to its highest evening position of the year. Known in Arabic as the Chief of the Mourners, in Chinese astrology as Po Jun—the Broken Army Star—and in Hindu tradition as Marīci, the first ray of light before dawn, Alkaid is one of the 15 Behenian fixed stars and carries ancient power over transformation, breakthrough, and the courage to release what no longer serves. 2. Light the candle on the night of the New Moon (March 18, 2026) preferably near a window. Light it anytime between 6 PM and 10 PM Eastern time and let it burn for 30 minutes to capture the energy we send. (Set an alarm or two and be sure you get your Alkaid Star Fire Candle.)
